    Severe Weather Warning
    for flash flooding
    for people in the Metropolitan, South Coast, Illawarra and Snowy Mountains
    forecast districts.
    
    Issued at 9:47 pm EDT on Thursday 9 February 2012.
    
    Weather Situation
    A low pressure trough over eastern New South Wales will deepen tonight and on
    Friday as a high pressure system south of the Bight extends a ridge towards the
    Tasman Sea. A low pressure system is expected to develop near the South Coast
    on Saturday.
    
    Rain and thunderstorms which may lead to flash flooding is forecast for the
    South Coast and Snowy Mountains forecast districts and parts of the
    Metropolitan and Illawarra forecast districts.
    
    81mm falls during 3 hours (between 6 and 9 pm) were reported from Penrith,
    Sydney.

    The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
      - Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
      - Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
      - If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available
        place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
    For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
    The next warning will be issued by 5:00 am EDT Friday.
